I cannot believe we're at week's end already. I truly cannot keep up.
Is it wrong for me to long for the day Christianne can drive?
And even though this is the first real week of summer, we're on the last week of June. Sheesh.
Today, by the way, is the one-year anniversary of Michael Jackson's death. Don't ask me why I know that or put it out there, except to say, again, that this past year has flown by.
Looking forward to a relaxing weekend... nothing really on the agenda, although I've learned that sometimes those end up being the busiest ever. Missing my Kathy and my scrapbooking time. Looking forward to an unspecified business endeavor conference in Chicago in a few weeks... Looking forward to the older two spending the afternoon at the library today... rambling now.
Enjoy your weekend!

Friday Fit Report
I bet Deb's chomping at the bit and had a great week with great weight loss. I hope so!!!
My week has been all right. I haven't given this the attention I should have and last night's pizza and chocolate milk surely affected my numbers a bit. But overall a loss is a loss and it's encouraging for the week to come.
I have given up Pepsi except for eating out, which amounted to twice this week. This is HUGE for me - I usually drink at least one, often two, sometimes more, each day! I've substituted it for iced tea and occasionally lemonade.
I haven't been doing much with the food aspect other than that and watching portion sizes. A lot of the week I did well (choosing a child's burger when Pop took us to Burger King, for example) but sometimes I failed (refer to the previously mentioned pizza, ahem). I worked out a couple of days but would like to see this get more consistent.
I actually hate putting this out there, just so you know. I'm even going to try to bury it with another post, tsk tsk. OK, Deb, how'd you do? Barb?

So We Can All Live Longer
There are certain topics that I never post about on this blog, at least not seriously. One in particular has been on my mind for the past several days and it's the issue I have with weight. Actually, it's always on my mind but for the past several days posting about it has been on my mind.
Why? I think generally I am a pretty transparent person. I don't mind sharing with you most of my faults ~ spiritually, parenting, etc. But this one issue is pretty sensitive for me. We can psychoanalyze the reasons for it to death but we can save that for another day.
Suffice it to say that whenever I begin to work on my weight problem, I get sidetracked and quit. Or fail. And I don't like to broadcast that over and over and over to the masses (of course that's tongue-in-cheek because I am not deceived about the size of my blog readership like a certain Oregonian relative might be about his) (and the mass pun was not intended but amusing now that I think about it).
But this week my mom made an offer to Deb and I that would really be hard to refuse.
If Deb and I can get to our goal weights... and maintain it... she will quit smoking.
Obviously she doesn't think we can do it.
But is her overall health and longevity more important to me than Oreo cookies? I sure hope so, not to mention my own overall health and longevity, eh?
At the beginning of the week we sat and watched old home movies from the 60s with Pop. Many of the people on screen I'd never met before, but I loved watching my grandma, young and energetic and sooo pretty. It made me miss her more, though! But I know the one thing in my life she would want me to do differently is get my weight under control. She always encouraged me in that and wanted it for me even more than I did.
So... let's do it.
To help Mom live longer. To honor my grandma. To cultivate godliness reflected in self-control. To live longer myself. And for the other 5,236 reasons.
Spent a few minutes online looking at weight charts... I had a target weight in mind that was backed up by the charts. I've got a lot of work to do.
And maybe by taking my quest public via this blog, I'll have accountability and support and... success.
So, as of today, I have nearly 90 pounds to lose. (Ouch. I can't believe I put that in writing, even if it is small.) That's about how much Josh weighs, a little less than Chris, and maybe two Gracies. Can you imagine? I can barely carry Grace now - I can't imagine how I'll feel when I lose just one of her in terms of weight. That's a lot of potatoes.
I've decided to tackle it in stages or phases, if you will, of 20 pound increments. Focusing on losing 20 pounds sounds a lot more do-able than losing 90!
I think on Fridays I will post re this journey my reflections, victories, struggles... so if this topic bores you, know in advance you can skip those posts!
On a somewhat related note, do any of you watch and/or are you inspired or motivated by any weight-loss-related shows on TV? I caught part of Losing it with Jillian this week but she's such a hard-*ss I actually had to turn it off. Anyone watch The Biggest Loser or anything else? If so, do you watch just for entertainment or for encouragement? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Prayers appreciated!
