One of the several reasons we wanted to leave soCal was because of the growing crime rate in our area, and specifically fearing for our kids' safety even while in school. From time to time our kids' school would go on lockdown for various reasons, usually because police were searching the area for some bad guy. Granted, the kids' school didn't go on lockdown as much as other schools in the district, but it still happened too frequently for my taste.
Yesterday C told me that she found out that her new school here in Colorado went on lockdown once. I tried not to look too surprised. "Do you know why?" I asked.
"Yes," she said. "A bear." :)

We had a glorious weekend. We got some things done around the house, but more importantly we had some great family time with the kids. From the picnic, to a walk around the neighborhood, to playing The Bible Game on X-box, to just eating our meals together around the kitchen table and talking, it was just one of those weekends where you really appreciate your family. We are so very, very blessed.

I love the way my G says, "Mom" and "Dad" - just like that. No "Mama" or "Dada" or "Mommy" or "Daddy." I don't know where she got it, but she's always done that. She didn't get it from C or J, either, because they call us "Mommy" and "Daddy." It's too cute. She'll yell, "Daaaaaaad!" or whine, "Mooooom!" No baby talk for her.
